CCT is a multi-week personal and professional development course designed at Stanford University’s Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education and taught around the world by Certified Facilitators. The program includes practical tools and exercises designed to enhance your awareness, compassion, and resilience.
CCT will support you to improve your relationships with friends, family, clients, patients, staff, and coworkers.
Until recently, CCT was only offered in person. Now, CCT is also offered online exclusively through Compassion Institute. This program is designed to make CCT accessible to those who are not able to take the course in person.
You’ll walk away from each CCT class with tools and practices you can immediately put to work. CCT will help you:
- Improve awareness
- Increase connection to others, to increase your effectiveness and influence
- Decrease the distress you may feel in difficult situations
CCT is a two-hour weekly class that takes place in real time in a virtual classroom environment and includes:
- Large and small group discussions to share learning experiences
- Guided meditation to improve awareness
- Listening and communication exercises to build compassionate interactions
You’ll also have daily homework of one guided meditation per day and informal practices to try as you go about your day.
This class is interactive and happens live in a group learning environment. To participate, you will need a quiet location, a reliable internet connection, and a computer or tablet with a webcam and a microphone.
- This class will be recorded for future use in CCT Teacher Training.
- CEs are available for psychologists, LCSWs, LPCCs, LEPs, LMFTs and nurses for an additional fee. Please contact us for more information.

Monica Hanson teaches the Compassion Cultivation Training program for the public at Stanford University in the School of Medicine. Her focus is on fierce compassion, choosing compassionate values, and compassion led social innovation.
In 2013, she was the lead teacher in a research study for Stanford Medicine Neuroscience and Pain Lab, examining the effects of compassion training, chronic pain and the impact on significant others. In 2017, Monica started a collaborative effort to identify and exchange emerging best practices in teaching compassion.
While the last decade focused on compassion and meditation, Monica’s earlier work focused on applying symbolic systems in innovative environments at Nike and Apple.
No refunds will be issued unless the course does not fill a minimum number of registrants by 1 week prior to the course start date.
